Asya Ashman is a dance artist and performer. She explores the themes of hierarchies of attention, authority, trust and entertainment, both in her artistic practice and in work with young people. Asya creates educational projects for children and adolescents where she brings together her experiences in visual arts, performance and dance, as well as in art-therapy. Currently, she develops the project for children with refugee experience Play!Berlin e.V. that she had co-founded.Asya holds a BA in 'Dance, Context, Choreography' from HZT Berlin and a BA in 'Fine Arts' from University of Hertfordshire. In 2019, she participated in the DanceWEB program at Impulstanz Festival (Vienna). As a performer, she has collaborated with artists such as Meg Stuart, Julian Weber, Isabelle Schad, Tatyana Chizhikova, etc. Her works were presented in museums and galleries such as Garage Museum (Moscow), ADA Studios, Uferstudios, Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin), Hellerau (Dresden), Confort mental (Paris), etc.
This is a family workshop where parents and children can experiment, observe, share fun moments, and get to know each other better. They will have the chance to switch roles with one another, playing with the hierarchy of following and the hierarchy of giving tasks in movement. As we twist and soften these hierarchies, families will practice attentive observation and verbalizing what they see. By exploring new ways of communication through movement, each family will create their own collaborative dance, which can be performed and further developed even after the workshop is finished.
